5 Favorite Once Upon a Christmas Experiences

Don’t you wish every day was Christmas?

If you’re anything like me, you’re answer is YES! There’s just something about the holidays that makes everything feel a bit more special.

From beautifully decorated trees to eggnog lattes and favorite holiday movies, the holidays are a magical and wonderful time. There are many great ways to celebrate the season in Calgary. One of my favorite things to do is visit Heritage Park. This truly is one of Calgary’s most beloved holiday traditions. A day there is sure to melt even the frostiest Grinch heart and keep you warm with holiday cheer!

Heritage Park

Experience the magic of Christmas this weekend with Heritage Park’s Once Upon a Christmas. With so many things going on you’ll easily be able to spend an entire day there.

There are activities for all ages so everyone is sure to have a holly jolly day! Here are 5 experiences that you don’t want to miss…

1.Visit Santa

Are you on Santa’s good list or naughty list this year? Find out by stopping by to visit jolly old Saint Nick. No matter what age you are, getting a picture with Santa is a fun holiday tradition! Get a picture taken from the parks’ onsite professional photographer or grab a fun selfie!

2. Decorate Gingerbread Cookies

Skip the baking and get right to the best part of holiday treats – the decorating and eating! One of my favorite memories of Christmas growing up, was my mother’s holiday baking. I can’t remember a year that I wasn’t beside my mom in the kitchen decorating (and sampling) my favorite holiday treats. This event is fun and delicious!

3. Tour the Park in a Wagon Ride

Experience the wonder and charm of an old-fashioned Christmas by taking a scenic horse-drawn wagon ride around the park. Seeing how people used to get around is a great reminder of how far technology has come since Calgary was first settled. After the ride, warm up by an outdoor fire with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee.

4. Discover the Christmas Train Display

Bring out your inner child when you visit the Once Upon a Christmas Train Display. There’s something enchanting about these mini villages, all the detail that goes into making them look like perfect little Christmas villages. I’ve always appreciated the intricacies and attention to detail in the decorations.

5. Make a New Friend, Visit Alpacas

Visiting the Christmas alpacas is a tradition held in the hearts of everyone since the beginning of time. I’m joking, but it could be your new Christmas tradition!
