I don’t know about you, but when I’m looking for new restaurants to try, I’m always finding myself with a list that’s far too large for my busy schedule. If you are like me, with ambitions too grandiose and not enough time, this event is for you! The Taste of Calgary brought in over 40 vendors of restaurants, bars and food trucks for your tasting pleasure. At the Taste of Calgary, you can tantalize your tastebuds with tacos, steak bites, rolled ice-cream, ginger beef and more all in one night (or if you spread that out over a few days that will work as well).
Taste of Calgary works on a ticket system where each ticket costs $1. Depending on the food/drink item, most vary from 3-5 tickets for sampling. The annual event has three sections that are divided up by Restaurant, Cheers Garden, and Food Trucks. Everyone can try out the food from the restaurants and food trucks, but the cheers garden is for the adult folk who wish to wet their whistle.
I had the pleasure of trying this event out with my friends, and between the five us we managed to try out a grand majority of the booths. Here is a list of some of my favourite booths:
Dumpling Lab: Pork, Lotus Roots, Jalapeno Dumplings.
Mango Mania: Spicy Korean Chicken Bao Bun. Fresh Mango Aloe Vera Drink.
Minas Brazilian Steakhouse: Churrasquinho Platter (1 portion of beef, 1 chorizo, 1 chicken wing).
Paper St.: Poke-Chos: Ahi tuna, Wonton Chips, Volcano sauce, Edamame, non & togarashi.
Simply Irie Caribbean Cuisine: Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas.
Yummy Churros: Specialty Churros: 3 Choco Churros filled with chocolate.
Grate n’Barrel: Wine Slush
Brewsters: Hawaiian Coconut Porter
Even though you missed out on this year’s event, you can be sure to look forward to an even bigger and better display next year.
