4 Restaurants to ignite your tastebuds

Looking for a unique dining experience with every kind of taste in mind?  Look no further than The Smugglers Group; a series of 4 unique restaurants all intertwined under one roof. Continuing to grow and expand without compromising taste and service, the four restaurants that make up the space are Smugglers Inn, Open Sesame, Bolero, and Tango. While each restaurant offers a uniquely distinct experience, you can’t help but feel as if they all blend together seamlessly.

Smugglers Inn was the first to be established.  They have been a staple in the Calgary prime rib scene for over 40 years, and it’s easy to see why. In an age where most steak houses are trying to appear modern and new, Smugglers Inn maintains a rustic and classic atmosphere. Big high back chairs make you feel like you’re sitting on a throne, and the primarily wooden décor gives off a feeling of warmth. With a limited number of windows, they’ve managed to make the space very intimate as opposed to dark.  With huge cuts of prime Alberta Beef, the food is soon all you’ll notice, with every bite bursting with flavour of high quality Alberta Beef. That’s not to say someone looking for something other than beef won’t enjoy themselves. They offer a huge menu filled with everything from chicken sandwiches to seafood. The twice baked potato as a side is delicious! They also offer an incredibly impressive fresh salad bar and are one of the last restaurants in the city to have such a lovely offering!

Open Sesame was added to their portfolio in 2000. The menu is filled with a wide range of pan Asian inspired food. Something for every taste, they also have a “create your own stir fry” bar. With lots of fresh vegetables, sauces and meat to choose from, you get to fill up your bowl with all your favorites. The Wok station does its magic and in matter of minutes you have a fresh, custom made, delicious stir fry at your table. Like Smugglers Inn, Open Sesame offers a very cozy and warm atmosphere. While all the restaurants offer fabulous wine and drink menus, Open Sesame is unique because it has a smaller wine list which was carefully paired with their cuisine, so you know no matter your meal, the wine will taste great with it.

Bolero is a full service Brazilian restaurant. This is the place to bring your appetite. If you want the grand experience, be sure to go for their Full Rodizio. You control the pace here. It includes their sides bar as well as the full table side gaucho service.  Get your ‘cue’ at the door upon arriving to signal to the gaucho chef’s you’re ready for more food, which with 16 slow roasted skewers to taste, you want to make sure to take your time and enjoy every bite. For those of you who feel like that may be a bit daunting, they do also offer a teaser platter or a brunch.

At last but certainly not least, Tango Bistro is the most recent addition. While still maintaining that cozy atmosphere, it is by far as the most modern feel of them all and perfect for social dining. Tango’s specialty is their seafood. For those dining with friends, the Grande Tower is not to be missed. Three tiers of crab, prawns, oysters and more, this tower is sure to have something for everyone to enjoy. Save room for dessert if you’re dining here though! Their key lime pie is the best out there!

All four restaurants are located a quick 10 minute drive from the hotel on Macleod trail. No matter what it is you and your friends are in the mood for, you’ll be able to find something in this impressive collection of dining experiences. Reservations are always recommended but walk ins are welcome as well.
