Santa Stopped Here

The holidays are always a special time for many of us, but this year was extra special. This year at Hyatt Regency Calgary I was lucky enough to be one of Santa’s helper elves.

We had a number of families and kids staying with us this holiday season, and of course the big concern for kids is if Santa will know where to find them even if they’re not at home. That was our job, to make sure Santa knew exactly where all the kids on the nice list were going to be.

It’ll come as no surprise that Santa is a busy man during the month of December, so he reached out to Hyatt Regency Calgary to help make sure every child had a special gift to wake up to.

As one of the helpers on the project, an honorary elf, I got the privilege of finding out who would be staying with us and what they would like. The experience was truly one I will never forget. From the parents reaction when we reached out and told them about our project, to going out and doing the shopping, it truly reminded myself and the whole team here at Hyatt what the holidays are about.

We turned our back offices into a mini North Pole with wrapping stations set on every corner. On the morning of the 25th we were able to deliver the presents to all the children staying with us. Kids dragged their parents down first thing in the morning, as per the instructions we left, to come collect their special something. Each gift was handpicked for each child, and while we were excited to give them away, what was more exciting was their reaction. Seeing their joy brought us a joy of our own. To be a part of something  that hopefully made their holiday season brighter was truly a pleasure.

So to the families who stayed with us this holiday season, thank you for letting us be a part of that special time!

    Hello,

Just wanted to send a thought for any upcoming blogs next week. We will be hosting Downtown Calgary’s first GLOW – Downtown Winter Light Festival, each night 6:30 – 11pm over the Family Day long weekend. This is a great event for (free) and romantic Valentines weekend out or Families to come down and explore together.

    http://www.downtowncalgary.com/glow.

Just like in Europe – the public is welcome to come downtown and explore site to site over 15 different installations across 12 unique sites any of the 4 nights we are open. They can stop in an warm up along the way with a hot beverage at any of the open restaurants, retailers or coffee shops in the downtown. In fact, our international feature artists Varvara & Mar (Varvarag.info) will be installed right behind the Hyatt Regency Calgary, at the Bow South Public Plaza along the C-train line! Come down and check it out.

If you choose to do a blog and would like to access to interview any of our artists, please let me know – I’m happy to facilitate. Please share this event with all your hotel guests as well. Something, fun, free and unique for them to experience!

    Thanks!

Thank you for reaching out. I did meet with Downtown Calgary’s marketing team last week to discuss GLOW & the Big Taste, we will certainly be happy to promote the event & invite attendees back to our restaurants for a warm cup of hot cocoa. Have a great week! – Jenna, Marketing – 403.537.4414
