The Calgary Farmers’ Market is one of my favorite places to visit for a wide variety of shopping: local and imported items, unique and tasty delicacies, and fresh produce right from Alberta farms.
With the Calgary Stampede still five months away, the market allows me to experience what Calgary is all about – living in the heart of the West!
Offering a wide variety of food, art, jewelry and produce, 80% of the goods for sale are from local farms and businesses. There are so many vendors in the market that I rarely get a chance to see them all in one visit! Most vendors have samples of what they are selling, so make sure to take in the tastes of fresh fruit and sweet pastries as you walk around. When I visit, there are so many delicious things to try that I can’t decide which one is my favorite!
As well as food and drink, the market features live musicians and performers that entertain shoppers while they explore. There’s also an indoor play area for children to enjoy.
On my last visit, one vendor that caught my eye is Field Stone Fruit Wine. I learned that Field Stone is Alberta’s first cottage winery and has become its largest, producing multi-award winning artisanal wines right here in the province. The winery is located in Strathmore, Alberta, but you can purchase their wines at the Calgary Farmers’ Market. Make sure to take home a bottle of Field Stone Bumble Berry Fruit Wine for less than $20.00!
This is a wonderful place to check out while you’re in Calgary and looking for a unique gift to bring home for someone special. Open all year from Thursday to Sunday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, the Calgary Farmers’ Market is definitely one of Calgary’s hidden gems.
