It’s that time of the year again! The year is young and everyone is settling back into normal life! Although it’s over now, my favourite holiday tradition is visiting the Calgary Zoo’s very own Zoolights! This is an annual display that is set open mid November to early January.
The Calgary Zoo’s holiday decorating includes over 1.5 million lights that makes the trees and buildings at the Calgary Zoo look like a true winter wonderland. The Calgary Zoo has also newly introduced ice skating presented by Mahogany Lakeside Living, The Singing Tree, a 16-foot voice activated tree of lights, and a new revamped Wishing Tree presented by Chinook Centre. Feeling a little cold? There are several fire pits throughout the grounds to keep everyone warm. If the lights are not enough, visit every Friday during Zoolights and go to Candy Land, presented by Cococo Chocolatiers, and visitors can receive a complimentary Cococo organic chocolate bar!
My favourite part of Zoolights is visiting the new Santa’s Oasis at the ENMAX Conservatory, where Santa himself will be waiting to greet all the boys and girls that visit his oasis! Not only that, the butterfly conservatory has been turned into a Christmas get-away that all of the visitors will not soon forget.
Zoolight tickets cost $14.00 CAD for adults, and $11.00 CAD for children. The Calgary Zoo is also accepting non-perishable food items or cash for the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. Each family that donates will receive a one 2 for 1 coupon to use for future visits at the zoo.
The Calgary Zoo is accessible from the Hyatt Regency Calgary via the Centre Street CTrain platform heading east via Saddletowne Train, the Zoo Station will be just 3 stops away. By car, it’s only about 5 minute drive heading east on Memorial Drive.
The Calgary Zoo’s Zoolights is one spectacular event that you and your family will surely love to attend. With its lights and activities, it will add to your holiday tradition when visiting the Heart of the West. Be sure to add it to your list next year!
