Downtown Food with an Uptown Flair

I am constantly being amazed by the Calgary dining scene, it seems every week I discover great restaurants and Downtown Food Bistro is no exception.

Downtown Food Bistro is located on Stephen Avenues west end, 628 8 Ave SW. All I can say is yum, yum yum. I went for dinner on a Tuesday so it was a bit quiet when I arrived but the ambiance was cozy with an upscale modern feel.

Every course was scrumptious. I started off with duck ham and cheese, house cured and smoked duck prosclutto, duck confit garlic on house made baguette with honey, truffle and arugula – so delicious.

My entrée was miso cured sablefish line caught from Vancouver Island, French lentils, shitake mushrooms, bok choy, and sake ginger sabayon and it was cooked to perfection.

For dessert I top my meal off with the Chocolate Bombe, chocolate mousse, ginger sabayon, chili flake bark, cocoa Madeline, it was da bomb!

The service was top notch; my server Andrew was friendly, explained the menu and provided a level of service that Calgary foodies are coming to expect. What I also love is the rooftop garden where the restaurant sources its honey and over 40 different types of vegetables, herbs and fruits.

Downtown Food classifies itself as a seasonal restaurant, the menus changes regularly in order to offer their patrons ingredients at their best. Downtown Food makes everything in-house and supports local, organic and small producers.

Everything about this modern bistro exceeded my expectations; it is home to some of the most inventive food I have experienced in Calgary and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. I would absolutely recommend an evening out and putting Downtown Food as a restaurant to visit.
