Top Ocean Wise loyal chefs competed head-to-head at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary Monday evening for the title of 2013 Chowder Chowdown champion.
Thomsons sous chef Rebecca House was victorious walking away with the coveted People’s Choice award as she tantalized everyone’s taste buds with her chowder consisting of sea scallops swimming in rich cream with halibut, mussles, clams and a crispy crab cake all topped off with smoked salmon and a kale crisp. Craft Beer Market walked away with the Best Pairing (beer and chowder) and Downtown Food took home the judges pick for the Chowder Chowdown Champion!
All 10 competing restaurants who competed did an outstanding job and each station had a unique vision of chowder with distinctive flavors and textures that pleased everyone who attended. Sky 360 created an outstanding chowder with devonshire cream and corn cannel on the bottom! Calgary’s chefs crafted incredibly creative chowders and when you combine great food with an upbeat atmosphere, unique people with equally unique beer parings, you have an evening people just don’t want to end.
