Top Ocean Wise chefs are competing head-to-head in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto for the title of 2013 Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown Champion in each city. This year Ocean Wise is bringing Calgary its first ever Chowder Chowdown. Local chefs from some very well-known Calgary eateries will be taking part to invent their own unique chowder creation. Each original chowder will be paired with local craft beer, and attendees will get to vote for their favorite, all in support of sustainable seafood.
With that in mind competing is our own Chef Rebecca House from Thomsons and our neighboring Chef Kyle Groves from Catch Restaurant & Oyster Bar. I’ve seen both recipes but am sworn to secrecy until the event but I’ll tell you this they had me drooling!
All the chefs competing feel it’s a great opportunity to bring awareness to sustainable seafood and to promote a better understanding of what’s happening to our oceans. Overfishing is the greatest threat to our oceans today. The world’s marine life is quickly being depleted. An estimated 90% of all large, predatory fish are already gone from the world’s oceans.
So come and join me and taste all the delectable original chowders, paired with local craft beer and vote for your favourite, all in support of sustainable seafood.
