It won’t be long now!!! Pride 2013 is fast approaching.
Pride is growing in Calgary and this year The Hyatt Regency Calgary is proud to announce that we are the Host Hotel for Calgary Pride 2013! The official kick off event, Q the Arts, will be held at the Hyatt Regency tomorrow evening. I just wanted to take some time and fill you on my top “must do’s” for Pride:
1. Q the Arts – Friday, August 23
Calgary’s Queer Arts Festival is a multi-arts extravaganza featuring a broad spectrum of artistic genres, including visual art, theatre, music, dance and spoken word, headlined by acclaimed Canadian rock band, The Cliks!

2. Gay History Walk – Wednesday, August 28
Come take some steps in gay History with The Calgary Gay History walk. The walk will commence and finish at Community Wise (formerly the Old Y) at 223 12 Avenue SW – an important building that was a focus for our city’s fledgling gay right’s movement in decades past. A current tenant there is Calgary Outlink, our queer community support organization, who also is an ongoing sponsor of the queer history project. Come out to learn more about your community’s dynamic history!

3. 8th Annual Homo Hop – Friday, August 30
So it’s that time of year again where we hold the annual youth dance also known as the Homo Hop! This year it will be held at the Banff Trail Community Center in North West Calgary, this is minutes away from the Banff Trail C Train station. Admission is free and is a part of the official Pride weekend events.
4. 4th Annual Dyke March – Saturday, August 31
Get outside, enjoy the summer weather and enjoy entertainment in the park with the 4th Annual Dyke March and After Party. All are welcome to join in this celebration of women and dykes. The march will begin at 11:30am at William Aberhart Park (24th Ave & 2nd St. SW) and will finish a short walk from the Hyatt Regency at Rouleauville Square (17th Ave. & 1st St.).
The After Party entertainment will include:
- jocelyn & lisa – one of Calgary’s favorite musical duos
- Hashmandy – A local Calgary band
- Fake Mustache – Calgary’s only drag king group
- Daisy DeVille – A burlesque number not to be missed!
- Sheri D – the Spoken word
- Argintina – your EmCee for this great event
5. Pure Pride Official Pride Dance – Saturday, August 31
Cruiseline Presents: the Grande finale of all Pride parties in Canada this summer! Pure Pride is the Official Party of Pride Calgary.The event will take place at one of the countries nicest venues, Flames Central located in the heart of beautiful downtown Calgary with the world’s most fierce and amazing mix of talent to provide an entire night of heart stopping fun and entertainment!
6. The Pride Parade 2013 – Sunday, September 1
will be the biggest in recent history for Calgary! Last year we had an estimated 35,000 people attend our Parade and Festival, and this year we hope to have even more turn out! The Parade begins at 12:00 noon at Center Street and 8th Ave S (aka, Stephen Ave), and proceed West towards Shaw Millennium Park, where the Street Festival will immediately get underway.
7. Hershe Bar West Patio – Sunday, September 1
With Pride Calgary’s sweet kiss of excited approval,
Flygirl Productions brings you Hershe Day Club, the hottest party for women and friends. This post-parade party has serious sizzle. It’s the sexy, steamy, stellar Vancouver Hershe Bar you love, but this time it’s heating up Pride afternoon. The party is steps from the parade route, and the saucy, trail-blazing venue has a 15,000 sq. ft. rooftop patio with stunning views. Bust out your inner wild child and come have some fun. Everyone’s welcome. Hershe comes east, at West!
